Acquisition of appropriate and employable skills has today become the need of the hour. In industries across the globe, skills have acquired an important place in comparism to many other credentials which one acquired through formal education. Corporates, particularly in the Indian subcontinent often state that they are unable to find the requisite skills amongst the prospective candidates for their job positions. However on the other side we see that educational institutions are constantly upgrading their curriculum to induct their students with the latest set of knowledge pointers, which thus denotes that there is a broken link between these two ends. It is not just the individual organizations that are feeling the penalty of the skills gap but communities, states, regions, and whole nation pay a weighty price when they cannot find or supply workers with the right skills for significant jobs. It is of paramount importance to note that if the students are not equipped with the right skills, their degree will be of little realistic use, regardless of how supported they were through the process. Thus it is of prime importance that the educational institutions should respond appropriately and swiftly to the needs of the industry to attract corporations who are need of professional manpower. According to a report published entitled “The Voice of the Employer on the Effects and Opportunities of Professional Development”, the researcher clearly pointed out that instead of focussing solely on support services, colleges and universities need to work together on providing the students with the precise and exact skill sets which the students shall require to prosper and find long term success for clinching rewarding jobs. Today educational institutions are precisely required to offer educational classes more tailored to the needs of the real world, which is seemingly possible through updating curriculum by partnering with corporates and thus also design courses according to current industry disciplines.  According to NASSCOM, each year around 3 million graduates are being added to the Indian subcontinent workforce, out of which only 10-15 % general graduates and around 25 % technical graduates are employable, and at the same time it is also important to note that the country shall be requiring a huge percent of professionally groomed workforce in the coming few decades, which depicts the seriousness of the issue. In this gap of demand and supply, one of the main contributing factor is the fact that only around 7-8% of the students go for higher education in our country, which is thus not only affecting the GER, but is also one of the factor for lack of talented professional as required by the industry. It is becoming harder to produce pipelines of such talent for employment. The best few rated institutions in India are also able to produce only a few good talented pools of job seekers which includes the private institutions.  One of the approaches which can be a real problem solver in this scenario is “Industry-Academic Partnership”. This step will align both the needs of educational institutions and the corporate houses into one common stream. Both the parties shall benefit from such collaborations. This will help the institution to keep pace with the rapidly changing industry phases and the corporate houses shall be able to get rid of the problem of lack of professional manpower for thir organisations. However easier said than done, such collaborations also need to sustain in the long run in the light of the changing industry needs. Another important aspect which has come into light recently is the lack of soft skill gap amongst the aspiring jobseekers in the form of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. This problem clearly requires investment from the institutions and prospective job seekers end for bridging such divide in terms of training and multi faced personality development sessions. By working more intimately with the industry houses, the higher education institutions shall be able to produce a workforce who are more likely to prosper in the workforce and more pertinently skilled for lucrative employment. In addition, educational institutions will be able to open up a new source of revenue through corporate partnerships.
