By Miguel Toledo Cruz 20199666 “Homework 2” Strategic Management Instructor: Dr. Sibin Wu Master in Business Administration Wednesday, September 12th, 2012 Do you think Apple is a visionary company? Why? Do you think Steve Jobs built a long-lasting company? Why? Nowadays, who do not know Steve Jobs worldwide?
There are probably thousands of people who don’t know who he is/was, but certainly there is a higher percentage of people that somehow has had contact with any of Jobs geniuses creations or now they can get access to several content at affordable prices that can be found in iTunes, there are several products, that makes Steve Jobs a visionary man, he started along with Apple a technological revolution, bringing to life total new concepts starting with new words, earphones, music players, music by itself, computers, etc.
Moreover, I would say there are just few companies as visionary as Apple, from its very beginning the founders, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, knew what they were doing and what they wanted to do next. Even though, this tech company doesn? t have a formal vision statement, is clear what they are doing, and they have a very well de? ned goal where they want to get, they just work every day in building the path. There are a couple of “quotes” that sometimes are described as Apple vision: “It’s in Apple’s DNA that technology alone is not enough. It’s technology married with liberal arts, umanities that yields us the result that makes our heart sing. And nowhere is that more true than in these post-PC devices. “, (Steve Jobs, March 2011) or “To make a contribution to the world by making tools for the mind that advance humankind. ” In the same way, as Jobs said, looking forward is one of the core values within Apple, this company once faced failures and critical problems, but as soon as Jobs stepped back in the company as CEO, he guided Apple into a very challenging phase, by developing new products that were kind of unknown for them, as they started achieving success, they got con? ence and followed the same strategic among the company, which has brought extraordinary results to them and to the world. On the other hand, I? m convinced that Steve Jobs used to build long-lasting companies, his vision gave him the ability to look beyond, where almost anybody couldn? t see anything new or an opportunity, he did. Consequently, his two most known companies Apple and Pixar, still being a complete success. Also, when Jobs acquired Pixar from George Lucas, it wasn? t yet the company we already know, but Steve did know what he wanted to do with it.
In conclusion, Steve Jobs preached by example of always being looking forward to discover new things and being innovative, that? s the culture of those companies as well, always bringing new things to life so they can maintain the same level. Do you think we have a good mission statement? Why? UTPA? s mission statement seems to me very complete. In the ? rst place, it includes the reason of why does the institution exist, saying that it serves our needs. Just in the same way, this mission statement is quoting what the organization is doing, speci? cally the actions that are taking place, “The University creates, preserves, and transmits knowledge… and what are they achieving from doing this activities, in other words, the contribution that is giving to the world, or more speci? c to our region. Finally, is delivering its distinction and values, through mentioning the degrees that are being offered at the University, as well as concluding with ethical values such as preparing socially conscious citizens, meaning that this institution is a socially responsible organization, concerned about the environment and future of all persons living in and outside this country.
