Bullet Boy tells the story of two brothers growing up in one of London’s most volatile neighbourhoods, where a minor street crash turns escalates into a cycle of violence. As the Uncut have said “Brutally effective”, the Mail on Sunday says “One of the most striking films of the year”. It is quite effective as it is based on a true story. It is rated 15 and is the genre of violence, gangsters and sex in today’s life. The director is Saul Dibb and was released in 2004. Saul Dibb’s comment on the film is, “I think there’s a lot of humour in the film.
Even if dark things or tragic things happen, they happen to people who’ve got a lot of life in them, who’ve got a lot of intelligence and energy and so I hope it doesn’t feel that bleak”. Saul Dibb has worked primarily as an award-winning and controversial documentary filmmaker. His many projects include the BBC2 series about shoplifters, Lifters, life on the streets of inner city London, Electric Avenue and the notorious Tottenham Ayatollah about a British Islamic fundamentalist (both for Channel Four). He also directed the short dramatic film Payday, for the UK Film Council Short Channel Award.
Bullet Boy is Saul’s feature film debut. The main character in this movie is Ashley Walters; he plays Ricky in this movie. His television credits include the popular series The Bill (ITV), Holby City (BBC 1) and the ITV drama The Whistle Blower starring Amanda Burton. He is the main character in Bullet Boy. The introduction is very effective and describes Ricky’s Behaviour and personality; it begins with him sitting in prison and is being let out, his body language, clothes and verbal talk tell the viewers everything about him.
But his personality changes after he is let out. He does not want to get involved in anything at all. Luke Fraser plays Curtis in the film, he is Ricky’s little brother and is playing as a 13 year old. He also plays a major part in the movie and kills his friend while playing hide and seek using a gun, they were playing in the forest and his friend jumped out from know where and shocked Curtis as he shot at the second. Ending up by injuring his friend. Clare Perkins plays as Beverly, the mother of both Curtis and Ricky.
Then there’s Leon Black, he plays Wisdom and is Ricky’s boy and is always getting involved in dilemmas and Ricky is always there to help. This is what the film is about; he gets into an argument, and then kills the other boy’s dog. He wants revenge so he smashes up Wisdoms car. He calls Ricky and they both raid the boy’s house and try to shoot them but miss! The boy’s got their back by killing Wisdom and put his body in Ricky’s house. This film is also full of tragedy, sorrow and love.
Ricky has a girlfriend, Sharea Mounira Sameuls, she plays as Shea, this was her first professional acting role. She has a sexual relationship with Ricky but she doesn’t let him in her house when everything goes wrong: His mum kicks him out of the house for the good of Kurtis, his best buddy Wisdom gets killed and Kurtis killed Wisdom younger Brother. It was too much for her so she broke up with him. This gives the viewers the message that sometimes everything looks bleak but you should always keep your head up!
