Evaluating Essays “In my 9th grade English class, I had a teacher that would give out essays without really going into detail about how they should be constructed and what techniques to use when writing It. When I would turn them In, about a week later, she would give them back with writing at the end saying, not how good we did, but everything we did wrong. Yet she never showed us how to correct them. ” This being one of the methods that a teacher may use to grade essays Is of the engrave ones. One could take that as their essay Is good enough but with Just a little more work and his/her essay could e exactly what their teacher is looking for. Essays should also be evaluated on not only content, but grammar also. “When I was in highlights it was always one or the other. If I felt that my ideas and beliefs were great, my essay would be evaluated on grammar only as If my thoughts were not important. ” A person having his/her essay evaluated on grammar only may have them come to the conclusion that he/she could have written anything in the essay but as long as the grammar was correct It did not matter.
The writer may also come o the conclusion that the teacher does not care about what he/she has to say at all. On the other hand, someone may have their essay evaluated on content and have their grammar completely ignored. It is not good to focus on Just content or Just grammar but both on every essay. It lets the writer know that the teacher Is focused on their essay in every way and is not basing them off of one technique. By teatime use when writing it.
