Gun Control Guns, one of the deadliest weapons that are used today. They have been around for many years and have continued to increase in power and ability. Guns can cause harm and trauma to many but also can be used for recreational activities and even self defense. The debate on gun control has been around for a long time but is becoming increasingly more necessary. This is basically deciding whether or not to allow normal everyday people to be in possession of guns and the consequences that come from it. First, before discussing gun control itself we must understand the 2nd Amendment.

The 2nd Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. ” (Chemistries) The 2nd Amendment plays a huge role in the debate on gun control. There are multiple ways that you could interpret this Amendment, each person in their own way. When you think about the last part of it where it says, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms”, this is usually taken to mean that the United States cannot take away you right to having a gun or some other form of retention and that if they do it would be going against their own laws.

However, when you look at the first part, “A well regulated Militia”, this can be taken to mean that the legislature could regulate the rights of ordinary citizens to possess guns. (Chemistries) This proves there are many interpretations of this Amendment and this causes much confusion in the gun control debate. In my opinion this Amendment should be demolished and rewritten in such a way as to not contradict its self as it does now, so that it is clear to everyone. When it comes to the Catholic

Church’s stance on gun control well, they really don’t have one. However, some of the bishops have come out and said that they believe a stronger policy for gun control is necessary. (Chummily) The bishops are coming out and saying that it would initiate a better way of life of there were stricter gun laws. “The bishop took at aim at specific gun control measures and asked for Congress to act: The federal government should restrict ‘civilian access to high-capacity ammunition magazines,’ he wrote, and should also outright ban all assault-type weapons. (Chummily) This is showing that most are or the idea of much stricter laws therefore in favor of gun control. However, in Pope John Paul Sis’s Evangelism Vitae in 1995 he said, “That guns can be used in self- defense, in line with church teachings. ” (Chummily) This still shows that there is debate even within the Catholic Church about whether or not guns should be allowed. There is no true stance by the Catholic Church but overall they are mostly for gun control with respect to life.

Since, gun control and the debate on it were not around when they wrote the bible they don’t directly talk about it. However, in Luke 1:21-21 it says, “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe; but when one stronger than he attacks him and overcomes him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted and divides his spoil. ” (Bible) This is basically going along with the fact that people need to have guns in case a situation like this arises and they need to protect themselves and their belongings or family.

Also in John 14:15 it says, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. ” (Bible) The commandment that they are talking about is, “you shall not kill”. This is an example here the Catholic Church is for gun control in order to be profile and keep God’s commandments. However, the Catholic Church has no truly defined stance on gun control it changes and is even different between different church leaders. President Beam’s stance on gun control is that he is for it completely. That wasn’t always the case he believed while in the senate, that each person should be allowed to carry arms.

However, since being president and all of the shootings he has become in favor of gun control. “President Barack Obama on Monday made an emotional plea for Americans to urge Congress to pass new gun control measures. (Hunt) Obama really feels that there need to be steps made in order to protect everyday citizens from those who use guns in the wrong way by implementing new gun control laws. However nothing has been done yet. Mostly, Obama was fighting for background checks, less assault rifles, and the number of magazines sold at a time. What’s in Beam’s Gun Control Proposal) Nothing has been done yet but Obama will continue to try to push for new gun control laws in order to keep the country safer. My stance on gun control was very much in the middle when I first began researching this topic. If I chose being against gun control laws it would allow people to continue their recreational activities and to use guns for self-defense. (Williamson) However, I believe that it is not worth the lives that would be lost if gun control laws were not put into place.

Therefore, I am for gun control. School shootings and other events were many innocent people and even children are killed by guns are the perfect example of why we need these laws, there has been a rise in gun deaths. “The U. S. Leads the world in the number of people who die from gun-related violence. ” (Khan). This proves that gun control laws are becoming very necessary in order to save lives and try to cut down on the terror that which they cause. Therefore I am pro gun control laws.
