For the exposed soul many images represent him. All of them are liked to his loyal and reflexive personality. In fact the dogs, the element earth, the color and the sapphire wants to represent with their behavior and meaning his loyalty. During the play we can observe all of that devotion: he tells him his plan and asks him to watch Claudius during the play so that he can determine whether he is guilty or not. Horatio dutifully agrees and watches Claudius during the play. After Claudius leaves suddenly, they determine that his behavior is strange and fits one of a guilty man.
