What I like thus far in the introduction to child and youth worker course is that I find the professor easy to understand. I don’t find myself having to ask her to repeat herself or ask her to further elaborate on a topic. She states something, than further elaborates on the topic ensuring that we fully understand. I also like that she teaches to cater to every learning style. Reading, group work, power points and conversation like lectures.
What I find to be the most helpful for myself is the conversation like lectures, where she compares course material to real life situations. There isn’t anything I dislike about this course thus far; everything seems to be straight forward. What I would like to see differently to enhance my ability to learn would be to have more group actives with classmates. I like to hear others opinions and point of views, I also like to hear what others think of my thoughts and having small group discussions.
It allows me to step back and look and things from a different perspective, and not be so one way minded. From attending this class I have realized that I am very empathic, and self-driven, I think these will be great chararistics to bring to the child and youth worker field. With that I have also realized which areas I need to work on that might prevent me from being the best child and youth worker I can be. At times I can be quite, keep to myself, not voice my opinion or even if certain topics are brought up I may shut down all together.
In order to resolve these issues I would have to be willing to talk to someone in regards to my problems, seek help in the form of a counsellor, or social worker and meet with them on a regular basis to resolve my person issues. There for when I begin working as a child and youth working I’m not distracted by what’s going on in my personal life. I think I will seek help for myself before the year is done. And will be seeing them on a regular basis early of next year.
