Sources of Library Revenue
Library needs funds for its normal operations and expenditure. The funds a re needed for the management purposes, they need operating expenditures for the current and recurrent costs necessary for the provision of services by the state library agencies.
(http://www.statelibrary.sc.gov/docs/statistics/revexpfy04rank.pdf) The libraries also need funds to purchase new books and to refurbish old books by covering and labeling such books.( Bowler, 1964)
The normal budget that the states provides for state library agencies for the library is not always enough for these services, and therefore it is the organization of the librarian to look for more funds to meet other financial needs. (http://nces.ed.gov/FastFacts/display.asp?id=42 )
The librarian receives revenue from subscription to join the library by both members and non-members. The subscription fee is mostly paid annually or semi annually for me membership and it holds a large portion of the revenue.
There are other sources of revenue as the state library agency revenue are the federal government, state governments, and other sources, such as local, regional, or multi-jurisdictional sources.( Johnson, 1992) State library agencies may also receive income from private sources, such as foundations, corporations, friends of libraries groups, and individuals. State library agencies may also generate revenue through fees for service or fines. Revenue may be designated for aid to libraries, for the current and recurrent costs necessary for the provision of services by the state library agencies, or other purposes.( (Lind, 2003)
Today libraries a are also turning new pages for generating revenues , libraries are nowadays hhaving a latte at the library is a treat to patrons visiting to do research, check out materials, or attend meetings. And each cup purchased benefits the library. Chapters Cafés offer items such as specialty coffees and teas, muffins, sandwiches, soups, salads, and deserts. Since operation of the cafés began, their popularity has grown each year.
The library also discovered that the Chapters Café and meeting rooms are a perfect blend. There is a demand for meeting room rentals for private functions, such as wedding receptions, graduations, showers, and birthday parties (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3978/is_200410/ai_n9471663)
