Life is Good
Most people would argue that life is unfair. Some would complain that they do not deserve some evil things that have taken place in their lives. Some would claim that they deserve more because they have worked more. Some believe that the world is cruel to those who are good and friends with those who are evil.
After some deep reflection of how my life had turned out to be, I am proud to affirm that life is good. One common factor which affected this perception is the realization that despite the problems and struggles that I have encountered, I am still up for future predicaments. However, I know I never would have made it without the people around me; my family, friends, relatives, classmates, teachers etc. Even all the other living things around me affect my perception of life; trees, plants and animals. Everything that I see everyday crafted the idea that life for me is good.
Most people nowadays are too busy with their careers, businesses, education and problems that they tend to forget to appreciate some small things in life. It might sound weird but whenever I’m alone, whether walking to school or back home, I try to observe all the things that I lay my eyes upon. The trees—they try to shade the road for me. Their falling leaves would always remind me to look up to say hi. The wind—they try to make me feel comfortable walking. Their playful stunts with the falling leaves would always bring a smile on my face. The sun—it greets me in the morning and assures me in the afternoon that he would be back early the next day. The moon—it makes me feel secured to sleep at night. They might be just illusions in my everyday life but their presence affects me greatly. Life is good because I have them to accompany me in this journey.
Speaking of journey, how can I even begin this essay without reiterating how beautiful life is because of the people surrounding me. My parents may not be the best parents in world according to statistics and survey. I don’t think their ranking is measurable, anyway. However, I could attest that they are the most suitable parents for me and my siblings. No other parents, no matter how perfect they are, can beat them into being the number one for me. They may not be the perfect parents but their imperfections perfect the idea that my life is good because God sent them to me.
Family always comes first, they say. Without any doubt, I agree. Most kids my age would complain about life because they have fighting parents, bullying siblings, adulterous father or mother and so forth. They could not understand that life is not perfect. Life is not full of blessings which are always available for you to enjoy. Life without problems is not good. What is the point of it being called a journey if one is not entitled to solve its never-ending puzzles? Life without struggles is boring. How can you learn and grow if you don’t have anything to resolve?
That is why we are given friends; their purpose is to support you and help you learn if your family has their own struggles and can’t help you. They become your second family if your biological family fails to make themselves available for your needs. However, it is hard to find good friends in this day and age. Typically, good friends help you out by means of aiding you into realizing your faults and the solutions to correct them. Thus, collect as many as you can but make sure that you build quality friendship with them and not just for acquaintances. Life is good when you have good friends to back you up when you feel like surrendering. Just knowing that I have those kinds of friends justifies my stand that I have a good life.
Another thing that I have that I treasure with utmost importance in this world is my memories. It is something that cannot be taken away from me that easily. I know that when my end comes, it is the last thing that I would see as soon as I close my eyes to life. Memories, whether sad or happy, are what motivate me to fully live life as much as I can. That is why I always make it a point to remember a person I meet even for a short while. I enjoy collecting memories as many as I can because I know that in times of darkness, it is always available for me to pick up a smile. There may be painful memories but they are usually the most important ones to remember. They are the reason why I am strong and alive today. It is important to remember the lessons but it is crucial to remember the pain. It may lead you into bringing back the anger towards the person who brought you such grief. A problem once solved should be considered a lesson and not a baggage that burdens you wherever you go.
I don’t mean to sound too positive with everything that goes on around me; be it evil or good. However, it is in my nature to search for something good in a certain situation. I agree that the world is cruel but I don’t think life is. The world may be God’s creation but it is us who moulded it into how it turned out to be; evil, most people would say. It is like when we were kids and our parents would give us puppies as pets. Once given, they became our responsibility. We became their parents who must always be accountable for their health and safety. Nevertheless, as kids we didn’t always play with them. Sometimes we hurt them, abandoned them and forgot to feed them—and then they grew up. They turned into huge dogs that are capable to hurt people.
I must say the dogs’ development is like the world. It is a gift from God but in return we abuse its generous offers. Moreover, we take them for granted thinking that its benevolent gifts would always be available. The world, how it turned out to be, becomes the major factor which affects our lives. We live in it therefore our lives are the storage of man-made consequences. Nonetheless, we have our own lives to live and we are the sole initiator of our own. We decide where to go and want to do with it.
Life is good if you want it to be good. The world we live in is like a big classroom where we are given tests where we can apply the skills that we have learned throughout our studies which is our everyday life. God is our teacher who helps us through everything by instructing us with lessons everyday. There are quizzes to answer which are the small problems that we encounter. There are also the midterm and final exams which are the huge predicaments that we have to solve using what we have learned all throughout the term. However, most of the time life is full of pop quizzes. Those are the trials that we do not expect to happen and would usually catch us off guard. Either way, solved or not—we learn.
These are the ways of the world—and it takes a brave and wise individual to understand it. I don’t deem myself as such but I am looking forward into being one. I am not perfect. I do blame others for my imperfections which is utterly a brainless act to do but I am trying to learn as cautiously as I can. I believe it also takes time for a person to learn. I am still young but I know I can’t always depend on time. Pop quizzes are unexpectedly arising and I am not capable in living forever to learn them all.
