Logic in the Western World
Reasoning is the heart of logic. It simply emphasize on studying correct from incorrect thinking. Logic tries to find general structures of arguments that lead to correct reason while identifying common mistakes and pitfalls that most people commit. In the western societies ideas are often imposed by authority which are not only unreliable but are usually weak and undependable. Since it is through the use of reason that people decide on their future actions, it is therefore important that people in western societies be equipped with necessary information that will help them against fallacies. The extent to which culture, media, frauds and popularity affects person judgments is beyond anyone could imagine. Through studying logic, one will be able to defend him/herself with fallacious arguments and generalizations. One could also interpret and reason out the validity of arguments and statements made by political leaders or simply by endorsers. The reliability of a product, ideas and information can also be examined through logic. Logic is important as long as a person would like to make a sound decision. Since a person is constantly presented by choices, decisions are therefore unavoidable. Logic, through identifying fallacies, helps a person to decide more accurately.
Accuracy in this account means that the decision is the most acceptable and would generate less amount or probability of failure and negative results. For instance when choosing a drink in a restaurant, one might prefer simply water, a fruit juice or shake, a coffee or tea, a wine or a beer, and so on. However, before deciding, one will first need to consider several factors such as health, taste and preference, ability to pay for the price of the product, the person or persons that you are with and so on.
