Juan Ramon Jimenez writes love poem, his poem talk about a man who try to know a beautiful woman, and he finds nothing, but everything around him changed; it’s more beautiful and greater. In line 1, He uses word “unpetalled” which means he explore inside her to know her, and he writes “like a rose”(76), I thinks she must be really beautiful. He can’t see her soul but everything around him is become more and more great. From the earth to beyond infinite is filled full with fragrance and vitality. I think he fall in love with this woman.
The structure in this essay is really different. The forth sentence is moved to the right of the poem. Specially, this poem doesn’t have a title; thus, maybe, the poet intends to let reader name the poem follow the reader’s thinking. Reading this poem, I can see that love is so beautiful. The most interesting poem is “The Word Plum” written by Helen Chasin. I really like this poem. It’s the most interesting, special and tasted I ever read. It’s special from the title till the end. It describes a plum; how does it taste? How do people feel when it comes to mouth? Indeed, the poet describes love under the cover is a plum. Specially, the title is not “A Plum”, it is “The Word Plum”; I think the poet purpose is not only about a plum but also how to pronoun it. Maybe, the poet’s idea is that love is like a plum, it’s taut, juicy, a little bit tart and a little bit sweet. When you pick a plum up, you can see it is red, soft and taut; close your eyes, take a bite; the juice come out, go through your teeth, touch your lip then enter your tongue. Your tongue feels the sour first and then the sweet. Your teeth feel the taut flesh of a plum.
Your lip feels the fresh of a plum through juice. Try to pronoun the word “plum”, you push your lip out then take it back, right? I think that is the reason why she says “question/and reply, lip and tongue/of pleasure. ”(9, 10, 11). Just like “The Word Plum”, love is taut, tart, sweet and juicy. “6 lines of doubt” seems to be trying to describe a certain kind of sadness in love; also, the title show clearly about it. This is the sadness of a girl, who really likes this boy, but he doesn’t like her back, or he pretends to like her back.
In the first line, she says that she thinks he doesn’t like her; Maybe, she recognizes that when she kiss him. She says “I’m not needed” (4); It likes she confide to the reader. In line 4, she ends with the word “he” that make me think that she might be start to say something bad about him, then suddenly, she stop; maybe, she loves him too much. But, she lists some bad things of him; her list things become more and more serious. First, he doesn’t know her favorite color, then her birthday, finally her last name. I think this boy is really bad, he doesn’t even know his girlfriend’s birthday and last name.
In contrast, she really likes him; she likes him with her truthful heart “I kiss with my eyes closed” (6). It’s really sad when she likes this guy a lot but he does not. Love is not always beautiful and colorful, sometimes it have painful. “Marriage” is written by William Carlos Williams. It’s a strange poem. The title and the poem are really short. The title just has one word “Marriage”, and it tell clearly about the topic of the poem. The poem seems likes it has been divided into two different parts, but it connects to each other by invisible link. First part, “So different, this man/And this woman” (1, 2).
This man and this Woman are separated into 2 lines; it seems to be like the poet’s idea is that the man and the woman are really different; maybe, their character or their position in society. The second part is line three and line four, “A stream flowing/In a field. ” (Line 3-4). I think the poet’s idea is that marriage is a different man and different woman come to each other, become one like “a stream”, and they go together “In a field”(4) of life. This poem is short and the sentences in the poem are short too; the whole poem is just like a sentence, but the poet separates this sentence is really interesting and meaningful.
I think the final destination of love is marriage, when two people fall in love then they get marriage is a happy ending. Amy Lowell, in her poem “The Taxi” seems to be trying to describe a kind of sadness. This is the kind of sadness that when a person have to leave their lover who they really love. The title of this poem is very interesting; it doesn’t show the idea of the poet, but it helps me to orient the poem. The sentences are short and clear that make me feel the poem is so fast. It’s like this person sit on the taxi and he/she move away his/her lover really fast.
Moreover, this idea is supported by line 5 and line 6, “And shout into the ridges of the wind/Streets coming fast”. This person go away in the windy night, he or she may be really cold inside and outside. This person ask themselves “Why should I leave you/ To wound myself upon the sharp ages of the night? ” (Line 11-12). They have to leave their lover but their heart doesn’t want that. I think the author uses the context to describe this person feeling. It seems like the context is gaping their wound. This love is really painful. Love is something that really hard to define.
Love is really beautiful, colorful, powerful and tasteful. Love is something we cannot touch, just feel it. Sometime, it tastes like “The Word Plum”. Sometime, it’s powerful to connect two different people like “Marriage”. Sometime, it’s gray when it’s the love that comes from one side like “6 Lines of Doubt”. Sometime, it’s beautiful like the poem written by Juan Ramon Jimenez. Sometime, it’s dark night color when you have to leave your lover. Love is not always beautiful like a dream but don’t give up just for that reason. You may get hurt in love but you will receive happiness as well.
