Morphology is a description of languages morphemes and other units such as parts of speech, root words, affixes and etc. Morphemes are the smallest unit and cannot be broken down more. Morph means shape and logy means the study of something. All languages have words and morphemes. Words that can freely be moved around are a sentence. For example the word dogs. I like dogs. Dogs, I like. (Cat’s, do not. )
Dogs are a complex word made up by two morphemes. The ELL may have difficulty translating the words from English to their language. I think a group activity with other students whom speak English well should do an activity together to help the ELL student translate the word they need to translate to their language.
