First I made an schedule for me and my class so we can learn more effectively for our exams. Then I started to make my homework for business administration for tomorrow and know I am writing this of course.

In the evening I will keep an eye on my sister because my mother is working. Assignment 1: Clarifying expectations What I expect from my professional future? While getting older you travel to different stages of life, and for a long time in your life you only dream of things you would like to become. For instance, when I was just a little boy around the age of eight I dreamed about becoming the president of The Netherlands. My teacher would always say wake up! Stop living in this fantasy world be realistic. But I kept on dreaming about becoming something important. I looked up to people with mportant jobs, how they communicate or give presentations and speeches to enormous crowds. That inspired me. But there comes a time when you are forced to stop dreaming at least when you are awake. And that moment came when I left high school. I began to realize that the time to think about my future profession had arrived. I had to think about a job and make that right choice, and then you realize that it is not that easy as: I want to be a doctor, pilot or even a president. You have to choice different paths, will I become a doctor or an economist and you realize you can’t be both.

And you ask yourself the question, what do I want to be when leaving school? And you ask that question over and over again and it becomes more and more important as you grow older. I became really confused and then I decided to stop and think about what I always wanted when I was little. Travel, communicate and learn economic I knew that I had to combine these prefers in too one job. So I decided to study International Business and Management. And therefore I expect for my professional future to, travel, network, and go in to politics and do economics.

I have no glue of what job I will have specifically because my ambitions are too high. What do I expect from my study? I expect for my study to teach me how to communicate effectively with others, I believe that is one of the most important traits you need to master before going in the business world. I also expect from my study to of course teach me economics, law and organization theories so I will be able to help others and myself during my work. Furthermore I expect to have great and interesting lectures and teachers. And I hope that I’ll stay motivated and my classmates friendly.

What do you expect from the ‘individual project’ course? I hope to learn how to really be proactive, and learn strategies on how to be more effective in what I do and to have a clear goal in mind. Assignment 2: Create a collage representing your image of a business professional Leadership: This is an important trait a professional must have. To be a leader you need to know how things should be done, why they are done and how they are done. You also need the courage and vision to accomplish it. They must be capable of taking others along with them and be an living inspiration for others to follow.

People relationships: A leader ought to have excellent human relationship skills, if not his colleagues will not follow him. Integrity: A professional should be trust worthy, fair and honest when dealing with all kinds of people either in his organization or outside his organization. Quality: A professional must always deliver the best possible products. And by that we not only mean the end product but also the process that has gone before that. Innovative and creative: Professionals have to be innovative find solutions behind problems by using their knowledge and experience from diver fields.

Furthermore he has to always look for new information and come up with something unique. Other important skill you need to have is communication skills, which is of course also a part of selling skills. You can’t sell or make friends and increase you network without good communication skills. You need to be able of representing not only yourself but also your company. Another important skill is writing, you must be able to write business documents properly. Your writings have to convincing and believable as well as constructive. If you do not develop this skill you’ll have no place in the business world. Leadership is also a must skill in the business world. When you have a company of your own this skill must be well developed.

Negotiation skills are certainly important when trying to persuading others. Selling, communication and negotiations are closely related but are separate skills. Time management and Organization skills have to be topnotch to. Issues business professionals face financial crisis The crisis was of course a Major problem for business professionals. Demand decreased, the economy slows down. Lots of companies where bought up or went bankrupt. Lots of the business professionals lost their jobs and work pressure has increased. Information Society Due to technology development, the increase in information that is available increased.

Business professionals are drowning in all the information and companies have a hard time adapting to all the changes. Challenges of the environment It is by scientist globally agreed that we do caused the global warming. And the time to make critical changes has come. Business professionals have to think about the environment and how they can still make greater profits without hurting the environment. My own thoughts I think a business professional is someone who is not afraid of taking changes. He has to be a good leader, healthy, funny and hard working. He’s job is second most important thing in his life.

In my opinion a professional need to have the skills that is listed above. I don’t reallyt have an other opinion about a professional because we had to make a collage and do other excercises that look a lot like this one.

The relationship between professionalism and discipline. I believe that a person can’t really be a professional without having a certain amount of discipline. To become good at something an amount of discipline is required, to develop multible skills. That is needed to call yourself a real professional. Assignment 19: Define your own learning path Personal learning path After doing all these assignments it became clear that I still have lots to learn about responsibility and discipline. Responsibility is in its shortest explanation just to take care of your duties.

And I don’t really think that I have a problem with that, but it is hard to stay motivated and to take responsibility when it is really needed. For example when I do something wrong and I know I did I will usually blame someone else for the mistakes I made. I also should be stricter and more aware of my duties and don’t rush things and leave for instance homework for last. I need to learn to take responsibility when it comes to it. I’m planning to develop these skills step by step, but for now it’s important to realize how I behave in specific situations and realize when I have to step up and take my responsibility for it.

I already started by training this skill, by becoming class representative. This is my first step of becoming a professional in having responsibility. And to just be aware and do what I have to do and to lot leave important duties for last, I believe that I’m capable of becoming a great leader in responsibility. I believe that you can’t have be a professional without having a certain amount of discipline. That’s why I believe discipline is one of the most important traits you must have. I personally feel that I do have discipline but only when that duty is really important and must be done.

With other things like for instance going to fitness every day is still a struggle. Not so long ago I was really determined to start learning Spanish and it really went incredibly well, until school began. Then of course all my focus went to school and I made myself believe that there was no spare time to do other things like fitness or learning a new language. However I do cought meself sometimes doing absolutely nothing or wasting my time because I had a lack of discipline. So what I need to improve is being disciplined not only for important stuff but also for the things I like or that I planned to do.

Plan of action First of all I’m going make a LinkedIn account and really try harder to come in contact with other business professionals so I can learn from them. I also need to stand still for a moment and realize who I am? And where I am? and what I want to achieve when it comes to professionalism. And I really need to focus on becoming better in the traits that I listed in assignment 18. I think I need to focus on communication for the most part. I’m going to practice this by visiting more network events. Assignment 20: Discuss assignments 16-20 in groups of three Assignment 21: Critcally examine your networks

To what extent am I connected with people on facebook, LinkedIn or other social networks whom you do not know personally? I am not really good connected with people on facebook and I do not have linkedIn. I only have a real small group of people who I speak with regularly, for instance my family or my closest friend. But the problem with facebook is, that everybody has a friend that you know as a person so not personally. Especially for people who are really outgoing, they also know a lot of people only as person. So these people just have them on facebook or some other social network, but don’t really know that person.

And that is of course the same with me. I only know ten procent of the people I have on facebook, the other people just added me or I added them but without really knowing the person personally. Significances of my social network. Facebook is best for keeping long relationships intact. I use is a lot to contact family members with and it’s great. But it did not really help me with school or work although not facebook, but maybe LinkeddIn is more suitable for that. I heard of a lot stories were LinkedIn helpt a lot of people finding a job due to the connection they made.

So I’m positive that LinkedIn will be helpful in the future. Show how you might increase your networks “value”. Networking is for sure a great way to branden your network, but I am certainly not going to add people randomly. Maybe with LinkedIn but I have not tried that yet. Assignment 22: Identify three weaknesses and indicate how you can work on them and who you would like to aks for feedback. Assignment 23: Describe three situations that were unsatisfactory and reflect on them Responsibility I had to watch my sister, because my mom was working till late. My sisiter was only seven years old.

We had a salon table with candles on it, and I love candles so I decided to light them up. I forgot that my little sister could easily reach the burning candles. The disaster happpend my little sister was playing with the candles and candle-grease landed on here hand. I ran to here, because she was crying off course and I saw the candle-grease on here hands. So I got here arm and ran with here to the faucet and washed here hand with cold water. But it was already to late she had a blister. When my mom came home and saw it, she immediately went beserk. Asking my if I was crazy because of the candles that were on.

She said: “I told you not to light any candles”, she already warned me because she knew I liked candles. My parents and my brother were not happy with the situation. And they told me to be more responsible next time. I felt really bad and learned from my mistake. Discipline When summer vacaction began, I decided to make a change and start learning a new language. Because I thought that learning a new language is important for my study. So I began, actually I was starting very good. And manage to talk too my parents who speak Spanish. But when school started I did not do anything, and felt really not disciplined.

I still tell myself everyday to start practising my Spanish again, but instead of practising I find myself playing pc games again. My parents did not really react on it. But I do feel very bad because I keep breaking promises to myself. Networking I’m politically active and I am in the youth party of CDA. And the first time I went there I was really shy. I did speak to a lot of people, but they would all come to my. I did not really take any action. But I still had a nice time, and made a couple of friends whom I still talk with. My parents and brother was proud of what I did. And although I’m pretty shy, I still did a good job.
