Role of government and nongovernmental organizations in tourism market bozo Assessment 2 Name: ID: subject: Tourism is similar to few other industries and markets, having its own strong impact on the global community and helped to develop communities and nations. “Tourism is a global phenomenon that has experienced rapid growth In the past- 1945 period” (Page et al. , 2009). According to WTFO, huge changes than the past led to rapid Increase In the number of traveler, which they are the consumers of this Industry, See figurer-l (as cited In Seashell, 2008) .
The developments of this Industry as a result of government and nongovernmental organizations, that sated the regulations, the policies and the planning of this massive industry. However, it is been argued that government agencies or organizations are inefficient and bureaucratic, and do not understand the realities of the private sector tourism operations. This essay will outline the main roles of these organizations in the tourism industries and how they control and manage this industry by setting regulations and involving in tourism policies and planning.
Also this essay will support the ideas with examples over the Asia Pacific tourism industries. Figure 1-1: Estimate the Increase In the number of tourist and the receipts from tourism In 2020 (excluding transport) Role of government and nongovernmental organizations In tourism markets: The question to this Is; why do these organizations Intervene In tourism industry? Tourism, like any other economic activity. Which takes place in an regulations and other actions (Concur, Nick, & Sahara, Sumatra, 2008).
They mainly intervene in the tourism industries for two reasons: 1) As it is an industry, it should have negative impacts mainly socially and environmentally. So they try to control over this issue. ) Tourism industry has the potential to create more Jobs; in India the Planning Commission announced tourism is one of the main fields that could create more employment and promoting sustainable livelihoods. (Markedly et al. , 2003 p. 34).
Applying those two strategies to the making of the regulations, policies and tourism planning by The World Tourism Organization (WTFO) and the United Nation Environment Programmer (UNEVEN) to reach the flowing points(Markedly et al. , 2003); 1- Trying to promote economic development, especially by the government organizations such as tourism ministries (Markedly et al. , 2003). In order to manage tourism industry in country, tourism ministry need a strong network and support of colleagues in other ministries to work together and achieve an economic development.
As the financial incentives and taxation policies are often the responsibilities of other ministries such as the Ministry of Economic Development MIMED), (ministry of economic development 2011). According to New Zealand Statistics 2011, “tourism satellite account is compiled under a United Nations World Tourism Organization framework and funded by the Tourism Strategy Group, Ministry of Economic Development” (Zealand Statistics 2011).
For a non-government organization, :ILL) the International Labor organization deals with the economic development in the tourism sector, trying to form sustainable forms of tourism while reducing poverty potential (Targeted News Service, 2010). Which will work for the economic developments 2- Facilitating and supporting industries, this could be by both organizations. They support certain industries to create Jobs. An example for the role of nongovernmental organization for this one is ILL, the International Labor organization.
As they the organization that is responsible of air transportation and has all the airlines worldwide as a member in t (DATA 2005), in 27th of March 2008; they announced that Asia Pacific should focuses on the Environmental issues after the increase in flights which leads to more carbon emissions (Mathews, N. , 2008). Culturally, The World Heritage Centre is an organization to protect countries heritage sites, which for these sites are the main cultures for many nations. Applying regulations and rules on these sites will help them to not be commodities that are traded between nations (Peppier et al. 2011). Those were some of the policy and regulation that helped to develop the tourism market. These government organization and non-government organization are playing an important role in keeping this industry running and keeping it developing. No doubt there are other organizations some are tourist and others non tourist organizations that involving in putting legalization and regulation for tourism Industries. To understand more about how do these organizations work tighter? Lock at the next case of study. A case of study: traveling from “X” going to Y.
No doubt that tourism related laws, regulations and restrictions will have great impact on tourism activities. If we look at the figure 1-2, we understand that the traveler from “X” arrival to “Y’ country depends on the foreign visitor policy at the ‘Y” country, where the role of immigrations and visas requirements are plying an important role in tourism activities. As its also related to the political and tread relations between these two countries, depending on whether there is multilateral trade treaties between them or not , for example FAT (Concur, Nick, & Sahara, Sumatra, 2008).
DATA organization is playing strong role in making bilateral air agreement between them, when it sated the legislation and regulation to allow airplane to land in the hosting country Y (DATA, 2005). The arrival from “X” to ‘Y country will stay in accommodation whether a hotel or in any other type of accommodations, which are should be singed into WITCH (the World Travel and Tourism Council, 2010). Figurer -2 In conclusion, as it is been argued that; these organizations are seen by privet limitations for their activities. However, this assay showed how important are these organizations playing the role in tourism market.
