The Spartans and Athenians had some similarities but also some vast differences. Athens was constantly changed because of their die hard democracy, while Spartan had a Cultural tradition like no other. The Athenians strived on trade while the Spartans fought. Both were similar on their religion. The Greek city states have been in quarrels for years but had to emerge at some point to save their lands. Cyrus the Great is arguably the greatest ruler of all time due to his compassion for the world. 1) The Spartan’s cultural tradition was unlike any of its kind in Athens and even in the world.

The young men of Sparta were removed at age 7 during Agoge for military training, and were a part of the military until age 60. War was the first and most important occupation as a man in Sparta, and the Art of war was the Spartan ideal. All other arts ere frowned upon. The Economic basis for the Athenians was very strong. The traded grains, vegetables and fruits, as well as the grape and olive trees. The domesticated sheep and goats and produced milk and wool from them. They imported from 50-80% of its grain and their trade was very important to their economy.

The Spartans and Athenians were very similar in their religious traditions. They both worshiped Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, etc. These Gods were worshiped all over Greece. Each city state had its own local god or goddess. Sparta had Artemis and Athens had Athena. 2) The Greek city states were separated due to disagreements on government, military, society, land and resources. But they had to emerge eventually. The states emerged mainly because of the Persians trying to take them over. The Persians would have conquered all of Greece if it wasn’t for the city states joining together. ) Cyrus the Great has many lessons that can be learned by how he ruled. Whenever he would conquer another civilization, he would take in the culture and rebuild the city. He wouldn’t destroy everything and enslave everyone. This is the biggest reason he was successful. He got the world to like him 4) If I got to choose a land to take over I would choose Alexandria. It was the largest and most prospering city in the Mediterranean Region and was considered the “bread basket” 5) It also had the Nile River and the Egyptian people were very easy to rule.
