William Faulkner was an enormous man in literature despite the fact that he stood less than five foot six. He reshaped the way in which the world views literature today. Faulkner was one of the greatest influences to American culture of his time. In fact, his influence spread throughout many years to come. A major figure of contemporary American literature, his novels and short stories combining stream of consciousness narrative with linguistic innovations. In addition, Faulkner’s writing is muddled with literature devices and not as straight-forward as other American authors.
Faulkner did successful on the short story named “Two Soldiers”; as he use sensory details to place the writer in the story’s world and vivid characterization; and he used his own personal history in writing his stories. Furthermore, this is a short story that tells a clear, unambiguous, and warmly human story of a Mississippi farm family’s response to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. At the beginning of the story, Faulkner started with the characters Pete and his little brother learn of the attack on Pearl Harbor while standing outside in the cold, listing to a neighbor’s radio through the window. When Pete tells his parents he is leaving, his mother weeps for her son and his shiftless father frets about losing Pete’s labor on the farm, but both accept his decision. The story is telling the determination of Pete for World War II, he got to do something for project people that he loved, and his own country. In the story Falkner used his own country to describe the places. William Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha Country, with Jefferson as its country seat, is both a mythical and actual place. Yoknapatawpha country is 2400 square miles in area and has a population of 15,611 persons. Jefferson has an actual jail, town square, old houses, and Old Frenchman’s place, even a railroad. Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha country is in really Lafayette country, and “Jefferson” is actually Oxford. The Faulkner family lived there since before Civil War. This is where most of his stories take place.
He pandered the family history and his own personal history; and he used both in writing stories. In the story “Two Soldiers”, After Pete leaves his home from Memphis. Late night at the day Pete left, the young narrator takes several of his few possessions, slips quietly out his house and heads for Memphis to find Pete. He walks twenty-miles to Jefferson on the first leg of his journey. Arriving from Memphis, little brother is overwhelmed with the size of the city, but undeterred. Getting directions to where “folks join the army”. Faulkner used his own named place to setting in the story.

Despite the strides William Faulkner makes in imagery and setting he is extremely narrow-minded in his view of World War II. In this story, Faulkner used strong emotion on the character Pete. This character has a responsibility on family, the world, and his own country when the character Pete first listened the radio that something bad happen, he quickly though about to help a hand for it.
There are not any kids that could give their life into a dangerous with suddenly situation like Pete. Similar to Faulkner put himself in this character for the World War II. “In 1918, after the U. S Army rejected him for being underweight and too short, Faulkner enlisted in the Canadian Air Force. During his brief service in World War I. He suffered a leg injury in a plane accident. In 1918 he left the air force and returned home to Oxford. This story is relating how World War II was when Faulkner enrolled at the University of Mississippi as a special student, but he left the next year for New York City. In the story “Two Soldier” for the very last part of the story when the narrator finally sees his brother again. Gently, Pete explains to his little brother that he must go back home. Pete gives him money for a bus ticket, tells him to keep his knife in his pocket, and kisses him goodbye, much to the narrator’s surprise. The main character also is a little boy eight year old. He is a child feeling the wrenching pain of separation, for reasons he can not understand, from the brother he loves deeply.
In one of Faulkner’s poem that describe how weak this boy is “ Most men are little better than their circumstances give them a chance to be. ” It is a poem relate to this character. William Faulkner started out as a child with a dream, and with this dream he redefined the literary society of America. As he did successful on other short stories as “Two Soldier”, it was telling a fear, warm of a family, innocent emotion, and determination of the characters in the story as he used his own personal added in the story.
It helped the story more interesting as when audience read the truth story about things that happened.
